"ACROSS THE POND "

Across The Pond
Voices are calling out

Across The Pond
From a whisper into a shout
Across The Pond
First time I caught the sound was 1964
Records on the radio like I never heard before
Echoes out of Liverpool
England was swinging and in overdrive

Music made us happy then
Got kids today to keep that flame alive
Across the pond, voices are calling out
Across the pond, from a whisper in to a shout
Across the pond

Rock n roll was ringing out
all round the British Isles
Ready Steady Go was great
For making teenagers smile
These songs were made for me and you
bands would play and pull out all the stops

All of our favorite groups
Every week on Top Of The Pops
Across The Pond
Voices are calling out

Across The Pond
From a whisper into a shout
Across The Pond
Across The Pond
Across The Pond
Across The Pond

===================

"EQUALIZER"

Everybody's up on my stage
It must be the rage
Let me out of this cage
Renegades were born to rebel
When there ain't nothing else
Cos its all shot to hell

Don't say no one told you bout the equalizer
I'm the one who sold you on the equalizer
Don't say no one told you bout the equalizer
Equalizer

Why'd you want to settle for less
I won't second guess
But it's such a mess
Think it's time to even the score
From surface to core
Things we cant ignore

Don't say no one told you bout the equalizer
I'm the one who sold you on the equalizer
Don't say no one told you bout the equalizer
Equalizer

Odds are on you're gonna find
It's a very straight and narrow line
I'll see that all thats yours is mine

In time
In time
In time!

Don't say no one told you bout the equalizer
I'm the one who sold you on the equalizer
Don't say no one told you bout the equalizer
Equalizer

===================

"SUN ON THE HILL"

We got sun on the hill
My baby say you will
How can you say no
On a day like today
We can roll in the grass
Til the daytime passes

Night time comes
I know you're gonna stay
Oooh you mean so much to me
Ooooh I know its meant to be
Its never gonna be too late
But baby I just cant wait

My baby say you will
How can you say no
On a day like today
We can roll in the grass
Til the daytime passes
Night time comes
I know you're gonna stay
Beautiful day
We got sun on the hill
Bright sunny day

===========================

"LOVE JUST HAPPENS"

I dont know how to say it
It just happens that way
These words don't come easy
And my feelings wont go away
I love you, thats all I've got to say
Love just happens that way
Love just happens that way

My feelings for you came
It seemed like overnight
It was the first time
In a long lonely time
I could turn on my love light
In view of this new situation
I've just got to say

Love just happens that way
Love just happens that way

I love you
Thats all I've got to say
Love just happens that way
Love just happens that way
Love just happens that way
I can't change it!
I can't change my feelings now
I love you baby

===================

"STELLA STELLA"

It's been a long long time
Since I felt this way before
Got a bad taste from the last time
Cos you just walked out the door
So don't treat me unkindly

Remember I'm on your side
It's them against me and you

Stella, Stella
Where are you tonight?
I'm sitting here wondering
If you caught that midnight flight
If you did girl you must be up so high
Shooting out across the moonlit sky
Stella Stella
Where are you tonight?

I tried to give my loving
Give it all to you
I offered up my heart
And you gave me NSU

But I don't hold that against you
All love comes with a price
There's no such thing as free love
But you ain't gonna trick me twice

Stella, Stella
Where are you tonight?
I'm sitting here wondering
If you caught that midnight flight
If you did girl you must be up so high
Shooting out across the moonlit sky
Stella Stella
Where are you tonight

===================

"HARD ENOUGH"

Suddenly I find I'm not in love
All this time what was I thinking of?
It's a cold time to live
The world is take no give
I don't need a lover who plays rough

Baby now
Cos it's hard enough
Giving everything I've got
It's hard enough
I'm walking away

Believe it or not

All this time I thought I really knew
That I could stay so in love with you
Tell me where did it go
A passion that flowed

How can feelings so tender
Get so tough
Don't you know that its
Hard enough

Giving everything I got
Hard enough
I'm walking way
Believe it or not

Love is growing distant
And obscure so soon
Like a total ecplise
Of the moon
Yeah

Baby now it's Hard enough
Giving everything I've got
Baby now it's hard enough
I'm walking away believe it or not
Yeah it's hard enough
Giving everything I've got
I'm walking way
I'll leave you the lot

===================

"LADY SLOANE"

Yes I do know who she is
And even where she's from
Still I don't know why she goes
I'll ask her when she comes
Sometimes the times may try her
But no one can attempt to ever buy her

Lady Sloane
I want you alone
You appear like a smile
With the wind through your teeth
I fall beneath
Now I want you alone, Lady Sloane

Walls don't tell me where she is
The place was left a mess
Still I'm sure she had a list
Before it's time to go
At least that's what I guess
The points were in her favor
And no one can believe
They'll ever break her

Lady Sloane
I want you alone
You appear like a smile
With the wind through your teeth
I fall beneath
Now I want you alone, Lady Sloane

Late she lights her candle sticks
To taunt the helpless moths
The servants stand there laughing
Nobody really knows her

Lady Sloane
I want you alone
You appear like a smile
Then you're gone
With the wind through your teeth
I fall beneath
Now I want you alone, Lady Sloane

"DECEMBER 7 DEGREES IN THE SHADE"

Here I stand
Lost holding a losing hand
So confused
That I would even be accused
It's all slightly insane
How she ran away and left me to blame
There's no one who can logically explain

December, 7 degrees in the shade
Remember
Were you always afraid
December

Emptiness
Playing games with loneliness
And everything
Leaving so much nothing
It's only I'm broken in three
How can this be happening to me
Situations I'd never foreseen

December, 7 degrees in the shade
Remember
Were you always afraid
December

Walk or crawl
She always had to have it all
They paid the price
Every man who rolled the dice
The lady takes what she can get
Smash and grab with no regret
No remorse she quickly forgets

December, 7 degrees in the shade
Remember
Were you always afraid
December
Plans were already made
Remember

"RADIO ZERO"

Medicine man he's gonna fix you good
Down at the automat it's whores and hoods
You want confession, well the high priest saves
On seventh avenue they're selling pleasure waves

They play for drivers on radio zero
Out of Manhattan it's a reflex strain
They play for drivers on radio zero
Skidding through paradise
In links and chains
In links and chains

Arena Zenith 1999
God bless the internet
The airfare's fine
Transistor shoot out over Chinese junk
Some gladiators had that Sino Sampan sunk

They play for drivers on radio zero
Out of Manhattan it's a reflex strain
They play for drivers on radio zero
Skidding through paradise
In links and chains
In links and chains

============================

"DARK MUSIC"

You want to be her man
Not a substitute or a one night stand
And suspicion hurts your head
Walk out on the street
The whole world seems dead

And that dark music starts to play
Black clouds hide the sunshine away
Outside the city's so grey
You miss her so bad
It makes you feel sad
It's over

She says she'll call you up
So you pour some coffee in your cup
Oh, don't say goodbye
But it doesn't ease the pain
Cos that phone don't ring
And her number's changed

That dark music starts to play
Black clouds hide the sunshine away
Outside the city's so grey
You miss her so bad
It makes you feel sad
It's over

I keep hearing a sad sad sound
All the loving things she said
Like a long lonely note
Hanging heavy above my head

That dark music starts to play
Black clouds hide the sunshine away
Outside the city's so grey
You miss her so bad
It makes you feel sad
It's over

(It's over) Yeah it's all over now
(It's over) I can't believe it's all over now
(It's over) I've got to make it some how, yeah

=========================

"DON QUIXOTE, ABSOLUTELY "

Broken Arrows
Lying scattered in the sand
Though the vision was narrow
It was greed that beat the band
One day a hero, the next day a zero
A star machine casualty
Just like Don Quixote, absolutely

Dueling windmills
In a corporation scheme
All the legal aid and lawyers
Took us so far from the dream
But the war is now over
You rock n roll soldier
You've lost and you're too blind to see
Those you called friends
Just like Don Quixote, absolutely

All the pills and all the powders
Out of hand in the end
There never was an ivory tower
But sometimes we did pretend
Those you called friends
Now only want dividends
Of something that never will be
Just like Don Quixote, absolutely
Just like Don Quixote, absolutely

============================

"A BRAND NEW DAY"

Well I'm a lover and I'm a fighter
I never walked a straight and narrow line
I'm a reader and I'm a writer
A believer in the rage of time
There's a child in the heart
Of this man who plays a part
Staying open to the right amount
There's a number in the air
But I just don't care
So long ago I gave up count

Yeah it looks to me like this could be
The beginning of a brand new day
Yeah it looks to me like this could be
The beginning of a brand new day, hey hey

Well I'm a dizzy kinda tight rope walker
But I'm cagey as you're gonna find
So meet the dealer and the double talker
Who's got a highway for a one track mind
My home is in Manhattan but my soul is uptown
There's a rumor 'bout the way I talk
Take the boy out the street
That won't ever cool the heat
I walk the road I wanna walk

Yeah it looks to me like this could be
The beginning of a brand new day
Yeah it looks to me like this could be
The beginning of a brand new day, hey hey

Hold your head up
pushing down the concourse
Hold your head up dark horse
Hold your head up pushing down the concourse)
Hold you head up
Of course I will

Yeah it looks to me like this could be
The beginning of a brand new day
Yeah it looks to me like this could be
The beginning of a brand new day, hey hey
A brighter day
A better day
A brand new day

===========================

"GOODBYE ROCK N ROLL HEROES"

So many friends of mine
Falling down by the wayside dying
But this ain't no war
Still they shoot em down just the same.
And I feel so helpless
Cos I know why you've got to get high
For you to die

So goodbye, rock n roll heroes
Here's a song to open your eyes
Goodbye rock n roll heroes
Living your image, believing the lies

So many friends of mine
Chained and bound to a contract and jaded
Cos when your spirit's gone
You can't feel the songs any more
The music gets buried in anger
One more slave to a signed dotted line
Just a name on a company roster
Serving some time

Goodbye, rock n roll heroes
Here's a song to open your eyes
Goodbye rock n roll heroes
Living your image, believing the lies

Believing the lies
Believing the lies

====================================

"BEFORE MY EYES"

In the violet haze of dawn
I watched the darkness rise
Visions of a kaleidoscope
Danced before my eyes
I realized that here
My fate was meant to lead
My present is my future
I have all that I need

There was a time
I thought that it was a dream
But now I know it's really real
Cos now I'm here and touching love
It's not impossible to feel

There is no time or space
Or any human race
Kaleidoscopic memory
Is standing in its place
In the state that I'm in now
I respect the glaring sun
Those golden rays are falling
Sharing warmth with everyone

There was a time
I thought that it was a dream
But now I know it's really real
Cos now I'm here and touching love
It's not impossible to feel

In the violet haze of dawn
I watched the darkness rise
Visions of a kaleidoscope
Danced before my eyes
I realized that here
My fate was meant to lead
My present is my future
I have all that I need

"AVALANCHE"

Night time came on with a fiery rain
I got caught out in the shower
My heart was pounding like a railroad train
Devastated by the power
Black diamond in the virgin snow
I got caught up in the undertow

And I lost my heart in an avalanche
Trying to hang on to a broken branch
I lost my heart in an avalanche
And I'll never be the same

I heard the voices of the millions call
Through a time wave of thunder
My sight was fractured from the rise and fall
And the spell that I was under
I had the warning signs but didn't see
The fate that was about to fall on me

I lost my heart in an avalanche
Trying to hang on to a broken branch
I lost my heart in an avalanche
And I'll never be the same

Black diamond in the virgin snow
I got caught up in the undertow

I lost my heart in an avalanche
Trying to hang on to a broken branch
I lost my heart in an avalanche
And I'll never be the same
Avalanche
Avalanche
Avalanche
Avalanche

==============================

"LONG ROAD HOME"

Left standing in the rain
With no one else but me to blame
Waiting for the bus to come
Somebody asks me where I'm from
Looks like it's gonna be a long road home

Going back from where I came
But nothing's gonna be the same
All the games I play are wrong
And I don't wanna drag along
Looks like it's gonna be a long road home

When I settle down
On Sunday I can walk in park
It won't be so very lonely
When the nights get dark

Packing everything I own
And disconnect the telephone
Say goodbye to all my friends Cos this is where it ends
And it looks like
Such a long road back home
Back home

Left standing in the rain
With no one else but me to blame
Waiting for the bus to come
Somebody asks me where I'm from
Looks like it's gonna be a long road home

Packing everything I own
And disconnect the telephone
Say goodbye to all my friends Cos this is where it ends
And it looks like
Such a long road back home
Back home

~ The Story ~

This album is another musical adventure with Alan Merrill delving into a variety of styles, from folk rock to R&B, glam-rock to pop,
and rock to romantic ballads. Songs like SUN ON THE HILL and LOVE JUST HAPPENS harken back to the Arrows, his chart hit band
in the mid 1970s in England.

Following in the tradition of his most famous song I LOVE ROCK N ROLL, the jangle rock ACROSS THE POND was written
and recorded as an homage to his love of the rock n roll British Invasion of the mid 1960s that inspired so many young musicians.
It's the theme song for a TV show of the same name for the new MyJam Music Network; a show Alan Merrill has also hosted,
showcasing acts from the UK for a US audience.
EQUALIZER was written for Bell Records 70s UK glam-rock legend Jon Rossall and included on his new project, which will be out in 2019.

LONG ROAD HOME is the only song on the album that has been previously recorded and released by Hiroshi Kamayatsu and his father Tib Kamayatsu
in Japan as a duet on the FATHER AND MAD SON album in 1972. The song is a Kamayatsu-Merrill co-write
Also included here is a rare track written by Alan at age 15, BEFORE MY EYES which was part of the repertoire of his semi-pro teen bands,
The Kaleidoscope and The Water Tower West, when they played at the Cafe Wha in Greenwich Village, New York 1966 through 1968.
It has been recently recorded for the first time, and will be of interest to people who were there back then, or who might be curious to hear
what those bands sounded like in the hazy, heady days of the psychedelic 60s. Alan has dusted off his Rickenbacker 12 string, a guitar that he played
exclusively in his teens, for this track . Where his last album BLUE AVENUE was keyboard driven, 12 string guitars both electric and acoustic are a common
theme on this new album.
DON QUIXOTE ABSOLUTELY and GOODBYE ROCK N ROLL HEROES are reflective and revealing songs about the music industry
from an insider's eye.
The song A BRAND NEW DAY clearly shows how his close familial ties with Laura Nyro has influenced his songwriting,
being with her after school in the Bronx in the mid-1960s, watching her write her most legendary songs all those years ago.

I hope you enjoy tuning in to Radio Zero! -
